Beaten Zone Venture Partners Welcomes Robin Levison and Charlie McGillis to its Investment Committee

Two senior appointments strengthen the BZVF1 Investment Committee across capital markets, defence and space

Beaten Zone Ventures is pleased to officially announce the appointment of Robin Levison and Charlie McGillis as members of the BZV Investment Committee. Robin also participates as a Limited Partner in BZVF1, bringing the dual perspective of investor and governance leader to the committee.

Robin Levison is a highly experienced business leader with an exceptional track record across both ASX and NZX publicly listed company boards, as well as the not-for-profit sector. His core areas of expertise span accounting, finance and audit, debt finance and capital raising, and the full acquisition and disposition lifecycle.

Charlie McGillis is an executive leader in safety and sustainability across space operations and supply chains, with a background in Special Operations. She is a TEDx speaker, board member, advisor and strong STEM advocate. Her work sits at the intersection of civil, commercial and national security space systems.

Charlie said:What drew me to Beaten Zone is their insistence on understanding the mission before the technology; that’s how you build capabilities operators can actually trust in the field, and it’s why they are one of the few funds treating safety and sustainability in orbit as questions of national security as much as commerce.”

Together, Robin and Charlie bring complementary strengths to the BZVF1 Investment Committee. Their appointments reflect Beaten Zone’s commitment to building an IC with the depth to assess complex, dual-use opportunities across defence, space and sovereign capability.

Steve Baxter, Founder and Lead Investor, said: “We back companies building capability that matters. To do that well you need people around the table who have operated at the edge of what is hard. Robin has done that in capital markets. Charlie has done that in space and defence. That combination is rare and we are fortunate to have both.

The Investment Committee (IC) is the central decision-making body of a venture capital fund. At Beaten Zone Venture Partners the IC is responsible for evaluating and approving all investment decisions, ensuring each opportunity meets the fund’s strategic criteria, risk appetite, and return expectations. The committee brings together complementary expertise to conduct extensive due diligence and maintain portfolio discipline throughout the fund lifecycle.

Beyond new investments, the IC provides ongoing strategic guidance to portfolio companies, monitors performance against milestones, and steers decisions around follow-on investment, exit timing, and capital allocation.

Robin and Charlie join fellow Investment Committee members Steve Baxter, Beaten Zone Venture Partners’ Founder and Lead Investor; Heather Richman, Co-Founder of the AUKUS Defence Innovation Network and Founder of the Defence Innovators Network in the United States, who brings extensive experience in venture investment, startup ecosystems, and strategic advisory across the technology and defence sectors; and Sean Singleton, USA Venture Partner, who brings over 20 years of experience navigating the US defence market and connecting BZV’s portfolio companies with North American opportunities.
